Hello Andrew,
Thanks for your question. I'm not going to know with 100% certainty based on the currently available information but generally Covenant Eyes does not cause the No Internet Globe icon on Windows. Our software generally either stops all internet or none of it if something is wrong. Most likely this is a known Windows issue that we have encountered several times over the last year or so. In case it is the Windows issue I am suspecting I will include instructions for diagnosing and resolving it.
When the ‘No Internet Access’ Globe icon appears in the system tray, it is usually due to an issue in the Windows operating system. Use the steps below to check your system.
- Open a web browser and go to www.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt846. You should see a message in the browser which says, “Microsoft Connect Test.”
If you do see that message, continue to the next step.
If you do not see that message, please contact703 Member Care. - Right-click the Start Button and a menu will pop up. Select “Run.”
- When the Run dialog box comes up, type in “regedit” and press the Enter button.
- The Registry Editor will appear. To begin, click the arrow (>) next to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.”
- Now click the arrows (>) next to “SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services.”
(When you click Services a long list will appear, that’s normal.) - Scroll down to and click the arrows next to “NlaSvc > Parameters > Internet”
- On the right side of the Registry Editor, double-click “EnableActiveProbing” and a smaller window will open.
- Verify that the Value data is set to “1”.
- If the value is set to “1,” then you are experiencing a known bug in the Windows operating system. To learn more, read this article548.
- If the value is not “1,” change it to “1” and restart the computer.
If there is anything else we can do to help please let us know. Thank you and have a great rest of your day.
