VPN connection is slow and there are reliablity issues on local network. I often need to turn off the WiFi and turn it back on in order for me to connect to the internet. Local network traffic is very laggy to. Airplay barely works and seems to be very high latency and choppy .

I had an update on iOS for my iPhone XR yesterday and since neither WiFi apps nor data connection has worked. When observing my vpn, it looks like it’s impossible to connect but it’s constantly trying and failing. They need to fix this or I’ll have to end my subscription and find other software. My phone is unusable.

Christopher,

I've seen something similar with iOS updates. The Covenant Eyes® VPN is simply goofy after the update. The most common fix is also the easiest - uninstall/reinstall the Covenant Eyes® app.

If you've already done that, I'd encourage you to look in the Settings app -
  • Check for other VPNs. If there is another one, delete it. [The reason is that, typically, devices will only run one VPN at a time. If there are two or more, they will fight each other.]
  • Check to make sure CE is allowed in Settings > Cellular.
  • Check that Background app refresh is enabled for both WiFi and Data. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Press "Background App Refresh" and make sure that "WiFi & Cellular Data" is selected. Then go back a screen  and make sure that Covenant Eyes, in the list, is toggled on.
  • Check age restrictions for apps in Screen Time. It needs to be set to 17+ or Allow all apps. If it's set lower, the iPhone® will not allow the Covenant Eyes  app to be installed. Based on what you shared, this one is less likely, but worth checking.
If things are still working oddly after that, please contact Customer Support at 877-479-1119 and explain what's going on. To be thorough, they might walk through some of those items again, but will also have additional steps they can take.
