Stuttering issue in "They Are Billions"

Covenant Eyes causes the video game "They Are Billions", to constantly stutter in an unplayable state. Before I had CE installed, I'm pretty sure the game used DX11, and with CE it's now using DX9. Would be very awesome for this to be fixed!

Hello Huestis.
I'm sorry to hear about your video game issue. May I ask on what device are you having this issue? What version of Covenant Eyes do you currently have installed? Also our software shouldn't be affecting your machine's DX11 so if it is then that would be a first for us. Any details would be appreciated. You are also very welcome to call our service center and a representative would be happy to help you in real time. Their number is 877-479-1119.

Thank you.

Dan

Hi Dan,

My device is a Windows 10 PC. I'm on CE v8.1.15. This has also been an issue on previous versions of CE. Same problem on my old computer as well. Game ran fine without CE, then once CE was installed, the game constantly micro stuttered.

Thanks for your time!

Huestis,

Thank you for the info. If you want to try a few things on your own, I have a couple of questions/suggestions.
  • I'm glad you have 8.1.15. Do you remember if it was an upgrade over an older version, or a fresh install?  If it was an upgrade, then you can uninstall that copy and get a fresh download. Sometimes an upgrade can go sideways, so this is an easy step to try on your own.
  • Does your CE username have filtering? One test, for clarity, would be to turn off filtering, refresh CE, and see how the game behaves. That will give us a sense of where the problem may lie, in the filter or somewhere else.
  • Another possibility that comes to mind is antivirus (AV). There are times when an AV sees CE as an intruder and will try to block it, which leads to weird stuff in other programs. Do you have an AV? If so, which one?
  • Along the same lines, have you run a virus/malware scan lately? If not, try the free edition of Malwarebytes, just to be thorough.
When I have seen issues with Steam, it has been a connection issue, as in the connection was not being made and people couldn't update games/Steam service/etc. I haven't seen before the type of behavior you're describing, so I'm curious and want to help figure this out.

As Dan mentioned, you are welcome to contact our Customer Service team. They can do some in-depth troubleshooting with you and are available 8 am - 11:45 pm (EST), Monday - Friday. On Saturdays they are available from 10 am - 5:45 pm (EST). If a phone call (877.479.1119) isn't your thing, please know that live chat and email (support@covenanteyes.com) are also available.

Hey Robert!

1. It was a fresh install.

2. I do not have filtering, just accountability.

3. I had Webroot on my old PC, and plan on getting it again, but at the moment I do not have an AV.

4. I just ran Malwarebytes, launched the game again, and same issue.

I had this problem on my old PC, and read on the game forum that some people were having this issue as well, my best guess is that they have CE installed as well and haven't linked the issue to it.

Thanks for your time Robert, and I too look forward to solving this problem!

Hey guys,

I've found some more issues you guys might want to look into. If this comment section is not the best way for me to contact you all, please let me know. I'm going to list my full specs to make things easier in the future for troubleshooting.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800x
AMD Radeon 5700xt  (Radeon Adrenaline 19.12.1)
16GB Memory @ 3466
Windows 10 at update 1909

I'm not on the latest Radeon drivers as they are unstable and cause flickering issues in certain games, still waiting on AMD to fix that.

Another problem I noticed today when playing the Witcher 3, was the GPU was not being fully utilized, hovering at 50-65fps at very low clock speeds. I made sure Vsync was off and the framerate was set to unlimited. I had my suspicions that CE was causing the problem, so I uninstalled to check. As soon as CE is uninstalled and I boot back up, the problem is immediately gone. GPU is being fully utilized and framerate is around 120. Also, just to check, I launched They Are Billions, stuttering completely gone. It was still running DX9, so we solved that issue.

Like I said, I'd love to get these issues sorted out, but until CE stops causing these issues, I cannot recommend it to friends or be content using it myself. If you have further questions, I'd be delighted to help. My next step will be seeing if I can turn off screen accountability and only using URL reporting.

Huestis,

You're certainly free to make that switch. The only factors would be 1) when was the account created and 2) who holds the role of Account Admin. But, before doing that I'd encourage you to do some real-time troubleshooting with our Customer Service team. Let me explain why.

The details you've shared so far show that your interest and awareness are higher than the average computer user. However, the details are an unusual mix of being good, limited, and confusing, all at the same time. To clear up the confusion and zero in on the root issue(s), we should do some live troubleshooting with you.

I don't know what time zone you're in, but I'm happy to make arrangements for a member of our team to contact you at your convenience. If you're interested in that, please write to support@covenanteyes.com. Please put "ATTN: Robert B" in the subject line. Include your real name, your Covenant Eyes username, and phone number. With that in hand, I'll look over your account and go to work to set something up. If you'd rather call/chat us at your convenience, that's fine too.

If you're not interested in real-time troubleshooting or the schedule doesn't work, then feel free to switch to URL reporting. If the account was created before March 5, 2019, then the Admin should be able to flip the switch from Screen AccountabilityTM to Internet Accountability at any time.
