Steam and Adobe Flash

So I recently installed CE this week (accountability only), and am now experiencing 2 different problems.  I searched your FAQ and Forum section, but didn't find this problem (although, I may have missed it if it is there).
1 - I can no longer start Steam (a game client).
   - I have reinstalled and updated steam, etc. but to no avail.
2 - All Adobe Flash based items within Firefox crash or cause Firefox itself to crash.
   - I have the most up to date Firefox and Adobe flash versions.
   - The crashes occur when on regardless of the site hosting the flash item.
   - An example url of a website that causes Firefox to crash every time: http://anilinkz.com/shirogane-no-ishi-argevollen-episode-7

I enjoy having the accountability that CE provides, but am just frustrated by the troubleshooting headaches so far.  I hope these problems have easy fixes, and I greatly appreciate any help/advice.

Thanks!
Ben

So, I hate to pile it on...but I discovered another problem:

3 - I can no longer start the program VitalSource Bookshelf 6.  This is how my medical school distributes our books, and so it is fairly important that I am able to use this soon.

Thanks again,
Ben

Haha, so here I am again...

I just downloaded Google chrome to see if I could load flash and discovered a few things:

1 - Flash will play with chrome
2 - Without Firefox's adblock extensions, that link I posted earlier has quite a few ridiculous advertisements - just a heads up (going to see if chrome has ad blocking extensions, etc. now)

Huh, those are interesting issues

so it is a Windows device?

1. We have no known compatibility issues with Steam, and I myself run steam alongside Covenant Eyes on multiple devices. I suspect there may be some strange interaction going on between Covenant Eyes and your antivirus/firewall settings. (hard to say until we have more information)

2. Firefox specific is an oddity. Have you tried removing some of the extensions that you are running? I wonder if there is a conflict between a specific firefox extension you have running and our extension, that is, as a byproduct, causing the crash.

3. I  cant speak to the bookshelf program, I do not have any knoweldge of it. I will ping some of our devs and see what we can do.

In the meantime I might recommend giving our customer support team a call. Some very specific technical issues may be easier to sort out via real time communication.

If you would prefer instead to keep communicating here feel free to post back your system specs, and specifically any other filtering/antivirus/protection software you may be running

Yes, it's a Windows 7 desktop computer...which I so happened to install Windows updates on the same day I installed CE...anyway it appears the itemized approach is fairly straight forward and easy, so why fix what isn't broken?

1. I updated my antivirus/malware programs last week and still used steam just fine thereafter.  I currently run Norton 360 and Spybot S&D.

2. I haven't changed any of my firefox extensions for at least 6 months, but I'll list them in case it sheds any light:
 - Adblock Plus 2.6.4
 - Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon 0.9.2
 - Covenant Eyes for Firefox 0.7.1 (this is new, of course)
 - Fasterfox 3.9.811
 - HP Detect 1.0.19.2
 - Toggle Private Browsing 1.8
 - Windows Media Player Extension for Firefox 1.1

3. No change

I find web-based support easier than phone calls, but I'll resort to it later if necessary.  Also, does the support team use any remote access software in any cases?

Let me know if you need any other specific information.

Thanks!

Ben,

I will get back to you about the specifics of the list asap. I mostly wanted to let you know that our support team enjoys using remote software, and all of them are in house CSR's located in our building in Michigan. (i know sometimes the phone experience isnt great, but ours is honestly top notch)

I think I've alleviated all the problems, hopefully it lasts.  I just did a last resort system restore prior to the last 2 chunks of windows 7 updates.  Everything appears to be working (steam, firefox with flash, vitalsource, and other random crap I discovered that I hadn't posted yet).  So I don't plan to update windows any time soon again...

Anyway, thanks for your help/time, and I hope that I never have to contact CE support again.

Thanks!

I believe that I am having the same issues as Ben.  All browsers (Chome, Mozilla, IE) randomly crashing when using any video streaming service or visiting websites that use Flash.  This started happening several months ago.  I have "dealt" with it thus far but feel it may need to be explored by CE.  Love your product, but this crashing stuff has got to end.  I, unlike Ben, am not willing to just say "guess I won't be updating Windows".  Windows updates are important for security and am not satisfied with holding onto an outdated Windows just so CE doesn't cause Flash to crash.

Have you tried our most recent Covenant Eyes for Windows beta version?

Most if not all of these issues should be resolved in the newest version.

So I'm back...

I fixed the original problems by doing a system restore and then reinstalling the windows updates within the past month.  No problems with that.

The only remaining problem I have (which is becoming more frequent, and thus annoying) is my internet connectivity.  Essentially, my ability to access anything on the internet ceases until I reboot my computer.  My connection is valid and therefore troubleshooting it (manually or with the simple windows automated troubleshooter) does nothing.  I ensure that my CE is running and signed in, and it is.  I have even on multiple occasions signed out and back in, to no avail.  My phone and wife's computer still function, so that's another double check to demonstrate the actual connection is still valid.

I have a feeling this might be a more commonly experienced problem, so I'm guessing the solution is fairly straight forward...I'm just clearly not finding/grasping it.

Thanks!

Also, just in case this adds helpful info - even accessing CE's website doesn't work.

Oddly, my CE crashed for the first time ever today.  I have the dump file, but didn't write down the support email before closing the popup...oops.

I downloaded CE almost a week or two ago, I have problems having my internet page open, while my WiFi connection is valid. I tried several different websites and when I tried pandora, I was able to access any of the websites that I had tried previously. Super odd.

But my computer overall has slowed down my CPU usage is commonly at 100% and my memory space is commonly at 65%. This slows my computer way down and makes it hard for me to do my work for class.
