Steam Store No longer loads, no functionality.

I started using Covenant Eyes again recently after several years away when some of my own issues started to manifest again related to pornography. When I last used Covenant Eyes, it was purely the older reporting service (which I thought was great.) Since joining up again and installing the new screen accountability version of the service, I've run into serious problems with the Steam application's store function. And not only the store, but also they're website in Chrome. In addition, when opening Steam up for the first time on a given day, usually it opens another window with ads for various games. This Window displays Steam Error Code 105 which indicates a DNS server problem. I have tried all of the usual solutions to DNS issues (router reset, flushing DNS, disabling AdBlocker) and none of them work. I've also had some issues with other game applications, though those are not constant issues.

I am using Covenant Eyes v8.1.3 and have my filter set to adult. Is there a way to turn off the filter and keep screen accountability functioning? (the accountability is what I signed up for, not a filter. If I wanted a filter I would have gone that route. Shame of knowing someone will know what I'm doing is enough of a filter for me.)

Thank you for your assistance.

EDIT: I should also note that I have issues with accessing YouTube as well.

Hey Jonathan -

I also use Covenant Eyes v8.1.3 on a Windows 10.  I don't have any Steam client issues (the Steam gaming client), nor any of these issues.  I'm not sure what could be blocking the clients.  Sorry I could not help more.  I'm a fellow avid gamer.

Have you tried seeing if these issues still occur after you uninstalled Covenant Eyes?  (making sure it's not a DNS only issue)

Best of luck with your sobriety.

Jonathan,

Please try the beta version of Covenant Eyes for Windows, 8.1.7. It was rolled out especially for DNS issues. Here are the release notes for that version:
  • Improved handling of DNS timeouts.
  • Improved handling of IPv6 communications.
  • Reduced connection failures for DNS-based filter users.
To turn off the Filter service, you (or the account Admin) can go to your Profile page, and look for the Services box on the right side of the screen. Make the change and hit the blue Save button.

If these options don't clear things up for you, then please contact Customer Service via live chat or phone (877.479.1119).

Thank you very much. I will try the beta rollout and, if that doesn't work, I will turn off filtering. I appreciate it and will let you know!
