SQL Server Error with CE filter

I keep getting this error when I try to connect to my SQL Server (2012) using SQL Server Management Studio (version 2012, Express with advanced services, 64 bit).
I am using Windows 7, I have Visual Studio 2012 installed... if you need specs I can get them to you.

Once uninstalled, without even rebooting, it worked fine.

Any ideas? Other posts say there is a big difference between the .NET Framework 4.0 and 4.5. Is that it?

Excellent. It sounds like they almost have a build ready that they think might solve your problem.

If you could email bill.lawson at covenanteyes.com, he will hook you up with this new version just as soon as it finishes going through our QA team.

Thank you, John!

I just saw a message that Bill had gotten your email and he'll send something over as soon as he's got some basic testing done on it.

Alaina, I just read about the new version of CE. Does this new version, by chance, fix the Visual Studio problem mentioned here? I still haven't heard anything back from Bill or anyone. Thanks.

Alaina, what did you find out from the team?

The only thing I've gotten so far is that they hadn't tested the new version specifically against Visual Studio and hadn't had a version to send over that they thought would address it. We do have a dev who I know uses CE and Visual Studio. I'll check in with him tomorrow to see what his set-up is and if he has any input on the problem.

John, could you confirm for me which version of Covenant Eyes you're on, or what the most recent version is that you've attempted to use with this (if you rolled back)?

I know we have had a few releases since this thread started (current default being 5.0.4.280 and beta being 5.0.6.41). I don't know that they would address this issue specifically, but there were some compatibility improvements in there so I wanted to double check. I also know I'll be asked as soon as I speak with any of our devs about it.

The last build I tried with Visual Studio was Build 5.0.2.414 (the one referenced in this thread from others). I have not tried other builds, since I hadn't heard that anything relating to Visual Studio had been changed or fixed. If it would be helpful to try again with a newer build, I will do so.

Oh my, praise God, it works!! I downloaded version 5.0.4.280 to try it out. I loaded up SQL Management Studio, and it runs perfectly. Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 runs perfectly, even running projects locally with ties to Azure products! TFS works inside VS. Azure Blog Storage programs work. So thankful!

Alaina, I thought it was totally fixed, but not quite fully yet! The ONE thing that isn't working is being able to debug a solution with Visual Studio 2012. Strangely, I can run the solution without debugging, just not with debugging. Debugging is essential for programmers, so this must work. Do the developers have any thoughts on how to be able to debug a solution with CE installed?

Is there an update on this? Did they come out with a build that works with .net 4.5 / SSMS?

(After writing the original SE post - http://serverfault.com/questions/423013/sql-an-error-occurred-during-the-pre-login-handshake - I'm now revisiting this .NET upgrade but facing SQL issues still.)

Build 5.0.2.414 worked for at least me and a couple others, as far as getting SQL Management Studio to work. But running solutions from Visual Studio with build 5.0.2.414 doesn't work. No word yet on a version that will fix that, but they are working on it.

Alaina and team,

Been trying to get in contact with you all since last Friday. Really just want to make sure someone there knows that this issue is not fully rectified yet in the most recent live build.

SQL Management Studio works. Running Visual Studio 2012 solutions without debugging works. TFS in Visual Studio 2012 works. Everything else I tried worked.

The only thing that doesn't work is running VS2012 solutions with debugging (we use some Azure products with our solutions, since our databases and such are all hosted there). When I try to do that, VS hangs and displays a message that it can't connect. I can reinstall CE and post the exact error, if you all need.

I, of course, would love to help you guys however I can to get this fixed for myself and any others who desire purity on development computers. Thank you so much!

I'm sorry, John. I'm usually more on top of checking responses on here. It's been a crazy sprint :/

That's odd. I've forwarded it to the dev I've been talking to about it to look at. He had an idea of what might be causing the problem, which I think would line up with the debugger being an issue. I don't have any sort of timeline on when that work would be happening at the moment, though.

No problem at all, of course, Alaina. Totally understand. Again, was just wanting to make sure you all were aware of the continued issue, so it could be somewhere on the list, instead of not on there at all! :) I really appreciate your continued help with this.

Thanks, John! I've made a note to check in with our product owner to make sure we've got it notated in our backlog. He's been on the emails, but I know he's also been busy this afternoon with getting ready for a update going out to Android next week.

Hello again! Checking in to see if there is a fix for CE when debugging a Visual Studio solution. You mentioned once that someone there had a working solution to this problem or something. Does someone have any potential fixes I can use or try? Thank you!

Ack! Sorry, it's been a bit crazy lately. I checked in on this and there hasn't been any change in the status of the bug as of yet.

I installed the beta version (5.0.7.194) today, and IT WORKED!!!

I can now successfully use CE while debugging Visual Studio 2013 solutions that connect to Azure products.

Thank you!

Build 5.0.7.194 fixed my SQL Server Management Studio Pre-login handshake error. This was occurring with the 5.0.4.280 build.

No idea if it fixes the Visual Studio issue, but I'm happy right now I can finally access Sql Server!
