Should we be disabling the new iOS 9 Apple News app once we upgrade our iPhones?

With the new iOS 9 release coming out today I want to be sure I am setting up my phone well to be protected with Covenant Eyes. With the release there is a new app called News from Apple. The News app will supply and suggest content. My concern is that it is one more way to get around the Covenant Eyes browser and access salacious material without accountability.

Do you have any insight to help us with the new update from Apple?

Thanks!

Good question, Andy. Let us look into it, as this is the first we've thought about the interplay between Apple News and CE. As a general rule, if the app provides a means of getting to a broad swath of Internet content, it's probably wise to disable it. Often, though, such apps are limited in-app and require that you go into Safari to delve deeper. In that case, having Safari restricted should do the trick.

Either way, we'll look into it and get back to you here shortly.

Thanks.

Hey, Andy.
Our internal testing didn't reveal an in-app browser, or any other way to get to openly explicit content. A search for news articles related to explicit content didn't yield much, but you might be best served to turn it off in restrictions just to be safe. Thanks for checking. Keep fighting the good fight.

I HIGHLY recommend you disable this app IMMEDIATELY.  Objectionable explicit content can easily be accessed through it.  I encourage Covenant Eyes to do further research and warn all its customers ASAP.

Indeed! I'm not sure what "testing" you did but I was easily able to get to ANY website I wanted. It's now blocked with the restrictions settings and I feel much better.

I was able to access Google Search within the News App and had full internet access without accountability as CE doesn't have the capability of monitoring anything outside of its own CE web browser on IOS. IOS news app should be disabled in restrictions if you want to be fully protected.
