Samsung Galaxy S8 Messaging Issue

MY problem is that Covenant Eyes doesn't monitor the web preview for links sent in messages in the stock Samsung messaging app (Messages). If I open a link, I can basically browse unmonitored and unfiltered.

The deal is, I've recently discovered that Samsung has an issue with 3rd party messaging apps not always receiving texts.  It seems to common over several carriers and is related to RCS messaging being in process.  That means for now it may be that the stock app is my only option for text and that's not good.  Has this issue with the stock Samsung messaging web preview come up? Is it something that can be fixed on the part of CE in terms of monitoring?  Really want to be able to utilize this tech, but it's been a battle so far. Thanks.

Hello Jimmy,

Thank you for your post! The hidden browser inside of the stock messaging app is something we are aware of. How our app works presently is that we do block several apps completely that have known hidden browsers in them because we cannot monitor those hidden browsers. However, I would consider the messaging app vital for all of our Android users and locking down that app completely would be unacceptable. At this time we do not have a solution for the web preview/hidden browser capabilities inside of the messaging app. I can pass this along to our developers so a possible fix can be researched.

I can tell you that if you use Verizon as your cell provider two messaging apps come stock on the Android device. One is the stock Android messenger and the other is a Verizon messenger. The Verizon messenger does NOT have a hidden browser in it and will open any links in your stock browser. If this is the case with your phone you can use the Covenant Eye's app locking feature and lock down the messaging app that has the hidden browser and primarily use the Verizon messenger.

I hope some of this information was helpful for you. If you have any further questions feel free to contact our Customer Service at 877.479.1119.

Best regards,
Annelise
