Request for filtering capabilities in mobile phones...

On your website site you say you that you have not received a high demand for a filtered app on mobile phones. I am posting this to inform you that there is a real BIG need for something like this to be made available.

Yes, there are many people out there that really want to be accountable and your accountability program will help but there is so much mixed content on some pages including inappropriate ads, etc. that can be cause for a stumbling block for someone to get into things he/she had no intentions to get into. If this content were blocked he/she could do his/her work and research in a much cleaner environment and also it would save him/her from the temptation of simply clicking on that bad link, etc.

Once again, I would like to emphasise the great need for a filtering app for mobile phones. This is one thing that is holding our organization back from going with your mobile solution.

Thank you!

Are there any plans at all of adding filtering capability to the Android app? Although I plan to install the CE Android app - that only meets my accountability needs, but not my filtering needs. Now I'll need to find and install a second app to do that...

Any plans? Please provide feedback on this important topic...

Thanks!

While we do recognize the need for filtering on mobile platforms, we don't have any immediate development plans for such a project.

Due to the rapidly evolving nature of mobile, we are constantly evaluating opportunities to provide better protection for our customers. Even though a project isn't on the drawing boards right now, that certainly doesn't mean it's something we won't ever develop.

I'd like to add that we would also love to have filtering capabilities for iPod Touch, iPad, & iPhones. Many of my friends would love to have it as well. We all tweens, pre-teens, or early teens who want these "i" gadgets...but we have no effective way of filtering content.

Thanks!

Thanks for the interest in mobile filtering. Nothing new to report on this topic, but we'll be sure to post something here if that should change.

This is far from an ideal solution, but if one has a rooted Android device (maybe jailbroken iOS device too?) they can modify the hosts file in /system/etc to block sites. Usually people use it to block ads but you can put any site in there. It basically is a simple blacklist of many sites. The set up is a bit technical, but if you are rooted you should know this stuff, right? ;) Directions: http://mathdotrandom.blogspot.com/201... and page with porn-blocking hosts file: http://rlwpx.free.fr/WPFF/hosts.htm.

I also would like to express strong interest in filtering for mobile devices. My son wants a iPod Touch more than anything, yet to safely give it to him I'm forced to cripple the device to disable all web browsing. Accountability is not enough in this situation because pre-teens are not known for their self control, even when they understand they are being watched. This is needed, please reconsider.

PLEASE, PLEASE add filtering capabilities for android phones!! You obviously have MANY requests for that. We subscribe for the full service and would be thrilled to have the filtering as well as accountability for our phones. PLEASE, make this a priority. Thank you for everything you already offer (at reasonable rates, I might add). Adding filtering would be that much better!!

Thanks for the feedback, Chasidy. We plan to go to beta in the next couple of weeks with a filter for the three most popular browsers on Android, namely: Chrome, Browser, and Opera.

Hey Dan,

Android filter is getting pretty close. There have been a few rough spots as we approach release (making sure to deliver an excellent product) but generally it should not be too long before we have Android for you.

Hi, I'm a Covenant Eyes software customer, & have a question. I have the Covenant Eyes software installed on my desktop computer, it seems the best I have used so far.

Would somebody at Covenant Eyes please notify me, when there is a mobile phone/android/smart phone internet filter available?

                                                 Thanks,
                                                           Noah M.

Hello Jill!

I talked with our developers and they do not have a set release date yet. It has been a complicated development process, and they have not been satisfied with the results yet. It is still in internal testing, but as soon as there is a version that are users are able to test we will send it out. If you would like to give me your email address, we can send you an email when there is a version for testing available!

I apologize for the wait and appreciate your patience. We want to be able to offer the best version of android filter as possible to avoid any complications. If you have any further questions feel free to contact our Customer Support at 877.479.1119

Best regards,
Annelise

Hello Laura,

Great question! We currently do have filtering available for the iPhone and the app can be downloaded through the App Store located directly on the iPhone. Presently, it only filters inside of the Covenant Eyes browser, but we are working on an app that will filter and monitor other apps.

For the Android, we currently do have a beta version that does include filtering. Our Customer Support team would be more than happy to walk you through how to become a beta tester and install the new beta filtering app for Android. Our Customer Support can be reached at 877.479.1119.

Best regards,
Annelise

Hi there,

It looks like this has really improved in the last few years, which is great! I have a question about mobile screen accountability though. On the desktop, screen accountability seems to work really well and helps me be more self-aware when I'm on my computer, knowing that where I go can be seen pretty readily by others. On the phone though, it only seems to screencap within the CE browser itself, and not on other apps despite the VPN configuration of the phone that CE needs in order to grab data.

This is a huge hole in the way screen accountability works for mobile devices, as plenty of other apps that are neutral in nature can become dangerous due to internal browsing capabilities within them. Is there any awareness of this in the dev team, and is there any plan to tackle the issue? I feel that this could be a lifesaver for smartphone users in recovery.

Kail,

If you're talking about an iPhone®, you're exactly right. Apple has guidelines for what apps can and cannot do on their mobile devices. One guideline that applies to Covenant Eyes® – we cannot take screenshots inside other apps. We provide accountability for the whole iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iPod) by combining two items: 1) Screen AccountabilityTM within the Covenant Eyes app and 2) Domain Monitoring for all the other apps.

Our non-traditional, patented VPN gives us the ability to monitor the URLs of other apps. But it does not give us the ability to screencap in other apps. If/when things change with Apple's guidelines, we'll be happy to adapt! As you probably know, the guideline in question does not apply to AndroidTM devices.

We know that Screen Accountability is a big step forward and a better product for today's technology. We'll continue to refine it and feedback helps us do that. Feedback like yours is encouraging and motivational. Thanks for reaching out!

Robert
