Remote desktop - and then internet connection blocked (!)

OK - I'll try and explain this.  A desktop PC with fixed IP address and route in the modem/router; which has a single login (mine) and Covenant Eyese (auto-login).

I RDP (remote desktop, the Microsoft one, to the normal port 3389) onto this PC from another on the same LAN (haven't got as far as trying this from the internet yet; but it'd be the same I guess).

Great - I get on; can access all programs and it's good - so I can connect up when I'm not at my desk (setting this up to remotely work on this PC as I need to get to it when I'm on the road).

*BUT* this remote PC won't connect to the internet (!) (actually, or LAN resources) - it says no connection...  Email won't work, Internet browsing won't work, even trying to get to a network disk doesn't seem to work.  And I'm logging on to it for those reasons!

I'm connected to it but it won't connect to anything else - it's as if me triggering a network connection (RDP) *before* Covenant Eyes has loaded (as it loads after login - always a bit strange to me) means that once Covenant Eyes does load and log in the PC is all confused and the network is lost?

Don't understand.

Note: this PC was *off* before I remote desktopped to it... I started it up with a magic packet.  So it was a clean boot and no local log in first.  I guess it might work differently if I leave it logged in locally (so just lock it) and then RDP onto it?

Help!

Ta, Dr. Michael Dye.

I have the same problem. I leave my work computer locked, then remote in from home, and all internet access is blocked. If I uninstall CE, the problem goes away. I did not have this problem with CE on Windows XP. But after upgrading to Windows 7, it started. I would appreciate any insight on how to resolve this without continually uninstalling and reinstalling CE. Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. And have for multiple months too (I noticed Michael's post was 5 months ago, with no answer).

I'm on a local network with both systems, running Windows 10 on both systems. The RDP system has CE 5.7.16 on it, but I had the problem before this version.

Michael and Tim, my work around has been to use Google Remote Desktop, however it seems to have stability issues (not able to connect all of the time).

I would really like a fix from CovenantEyes for this as it creates issues related to work and not just leisure.

Hey guys,
I'm sorry for the delay here! I don't like it when I see that we've let something like this sit unaddressed. I've pinged our Windows development team to see if they have some firmer insights than those I might provide. I'd be guessing at best. Stay tuned. You should hear from one of them [even if that's via me] very shortly. Thanks for posting. And again, I'm sorry for the delay.

Hey guys,

I just came on to report the same issue. I noticed that when you go to the local Dashboard > "Advanced configuration for this computer" it does not work either -- it reports "Unable to determine authorization", which may suggest something about the underlying that causes CE to block all internet access.

There is another program (MakeMKV) that does not find any optical drives when under Remote Desktop, running as an Administrator resolves this. Perhaps something about the user login/profile data is different under remote desktop, causing each of these issues.

It is important to me to keep Covenent Eyes on this other system, but I am trying to (permanently) keep it disconnected from a monitor and use it as a media server. Uninstalling or logging in directly are not suitable workarounds.

Thank you for your help

Is there any update on this issue? I am experiencing the same problem. When I RDP to my home PC from work, the home PC cannot access the internet. Both systems are running Windows 10. CE 5.7.16

Good evening all,

Just to let you know I've downloaded the update as emailed by customer support and installed it - and this text is being typed in to a browser running on the target PC with Covenant Eyes that I'm remote desktopping into - so all appears solved.  Also tried email (MS Outlook <> Exchange and SMTP) and another RDP leg using SonicWALL; plus an SQL network connection.  So a fair raft of items which didn't work before.  So certainly seems to do the job!

Thanks,

Michael.

I have the same problem. RealVNC allows me to access the Internet on the remote computer (which has CE installed) but Remote Desktop does not. Could the rest of us get this update? Regards

Annelise and I have communicated via email and resolved the RDP problem by installing a beta build of Covenant Eyes. Five stars for the prompt support and excellent service.

(Just a comment: it took over 5 months for someone to initially respond to this... now it's fixed it's brill; but not sure why it went unobserved for quite so long to begin with... not sure what the issue was but it did stop me 'remote working' for quite a while; instead I had to go to the office; which was part of the whole issue and why this software was installed!)

My personal apologies to you Michael.  I'm the Product Development Manager for the Covenant Eyes Windows platform and I take responsibility for this issue.  After I saw your original post (and realized how dated it was), I met with a support team to discuss this issue and put procedures in place to ensure we don't have similar incidents.

If you have any questions or further comments, you can email me at shawn.pillsbury@covenanteyes.com.

I apologize for the delay in confirming it (I have been traveling), the beta version does work well for remote desktop, I was blocked out of accessing multiple public WiFi services with this version, but either this is present in the version before, or I assume it will be flushed out during the full QA process. Either way, the issue at hand here is resolved, thank you

Hi Singmajesty,

Thanks for the feedback.  We are looking at the public WiFi issue as part of our "internal beta" testing.  Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

So far, everyone who has received the beta release has confirmed that the Remote Desktop issue has been resolved.  We are working to address some unrelated issues before we make this available on our public download site.

Thanks to everyone who worked with us to test the beta release.

We released Covenant Eyes for Windows v6.0.16 as a publicly available beta yesterday (4/12/16).   If you you are experiencing any Remote Desktop-related issues and haven't had a chance to install this version please give it a try.  This release has a number of other fixes that are mentioned in the release notes.

Thanks,

Shawn Pillsbury
