Questions before CE Purchase

Just trying to learn..
  1. Can reports be sent to you by email, or do you have to login to see them?
  2. Are reports sent even if nothing bad was detected, or can they be sent only if a trigger is activated?
  3. Are "bad sites" determined by a huge list that gets quickly outdated, or is content actually analyzed and classified as bad if it has bad words, etc?
  4. Can the monitored person use CE without any CE logos or other things appearing that may embarrass them in front of friends or colleagues? (For example, they weren't trying to view porn, but a page gets blocked anyway, in a way that would reveal they are being monitored).
  5. I know this is not router-level software, but can it do anything for things like Smart TV's, X-Box, or other things that access the web but are hard to monitor or block?

Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for posting. I'll answer these concisely, and if you have further questions, hit us back as you're able.

1.) Upon setting up an account, we specifically encourage users to establish an Accountability Partner to whom Reports are emailed at a frequency of your choosing (by default once per week).

2.) Yes. Reports are sent on the prescribed schedule regardless of content.

3.) No. Sites are scored dynamically based on content--not a "black list."

4.) To a limited degree. The software isn't flashy. It is possible to reduce its visibility on some operating systems (e.g. Windows), but less so on others (e.g. Android). If you're using the Filtering Service in addition to the Accountability Service, there is no means by which to customize the block page. However, one may elect to use the Accountability Service only. In that case the software doesn't block at all--merely reports. Alternatively, one could set the filter to block only pages rating "Highly Mature" in which case the likelihood of a publicly visible block is very low.

5.) No, not presently. Your best bet there is something like Open DNS. Open DNS and Covenant Eyes compliment one and other nicely in that respect.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you Patrick.  Sounds like reports are sent to the accountability partner on a prescribed schedule, but cannot be sent by trigger.  That's ok I guess, but it creates more work for the partner who has to review reports where nothing potentially worrisome happened.  Your suggestions for helping the monitored partner avoid embarrassment were good.

One more question:  Plans are shown a "$X/month", but I cannot see if there is a requirement for a certain number of months.  Can I be on a month-to-month plan, and cancel at any time?

Good follow-on questions.

We have some ideas kicking around here for the possibility of, as you phrased it, trigger-based notifications in the future. By way of full disclosure, Accountability Reports presently come with one of the following subject headings based on content: "Report Looks Good," "Review Suggested," or "Close Review Recommended." These should give the Accountability Partner a good idea of how thoroughly to scour the Report.

As for monthly commitment, there is none. If you pay monthly, you're welcomed to cancel at any time with no penalty. There's also an annual membership option which has a certain window for a refund.

Hope that helps.
