Question about iOS beta (screen capture)

It looks like the iOS alpha doesn’t use VPN-like functionality anymore to monitor the whole device. Is this a temporary thing or is this a change in strategy for the iOS platform? If the latter, I just wanted to provide my personal thoughts in that I think the whole device monitoring is important and something I would hate to see go away, but I didn’t know if there was a technical and philosophical reason for this either.

I agree. Losing VPN would be rough. Before the VPN we found it impossible to truly remove access to the internet on ios devices because of school and work required apps. If this is true, it makes me wonder if android will be a much better option for accountability in the future.

Chance & Mike,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Chance, you are right about the iOS alpha version. It does not use the VPN-like functionality that you are referring to. Part of that is simply the strategy of alpha testing - keep things as simple as possible in order to know exactly how screen accountability is or isn't working.

Unintentionally, doing so has elicited feedback specific to the VPN. Some people have really found comfort/security in the whole-device coverage it provides. Others can take it or leave it.

At this stage ALL feedback about screen accountability is important! If you guys (or anyone reading this) have other comments, please share here! You can also submit feedback with the feedback button in the screen accountability reports.

Thanks again,

Robert

So it looks like the latest update, at least on iOS, 5.0.0.8 on Testflight brought back the whole device monitoring.

Chance,

That's correct. For beta-stage testing, Screen Accountability is available in the Covenant Eyes app and URL-monitoring is active for the other apps.

Because of that, partners of those using 5.0.0.8 will receive two reports. One for Screen AccountabilityTM and one for Internet Accountability.

Be sure to let us know what you think! Use the feedback button on either report.
