New laptop options and Covenant eyes

Hello. I am on the market for a new PC or laptop.  I am always uncomfortable getting a new laptops as that always means re-downloading covenant  eyes and snuffing out back doors. I am also looking for something that can run Logos software. I was thinking a gaming pc but I don/t want to buy something that I will regret. What are the best options that do not involve unnecessary risks (like unnecessary backdoor apps (twitter/Instagram/anything related to social media) preinstalled on the laptop)?  Or are there any ideas on how to navigate these issues?

Casey,

Thanks for asking, I appreciate the spirit of your questions. Here are a few answers:

1 - For a variety of reasons we can't recommend a specific device,
2 - To get a basic, aka bare bones, computer, you'll be better off asking a computer seller. The fact is, you are right about the abundance of pre-installed apps, it's a very common practice. So a computer salesperson will know your best option for that.
3 - To get details about what device will run Logos, check out their requirements page at https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007506971-Logos-Minimum-System-Requirements
4 - When it comes time to install Covenant Eyes on a new device, please feel free to contact us 989.720.8000). A member of our Customer Service team will be happy to help with that. And if you'll share your concerns about those "backdoor apps," he/she will give you some honest feedback about navigating them.

Thanks again,

Robert

I have a similar question. my son currently has a chromebook which does not support covenant eyes. I need to get him one that will allow covenant eyes... Do you know which devices WILL NOT work with covenant eyes? I know you cannot recommend a specific device, but can you at lease share which ones WON'T work? Thanks!

Kari,

Thanks for asking and here are a few facts to keep in mind:
  • Linux computers - not supported
  • Mac - just needs to be running macOS 10.10 or newer to be compatible. at this time, new ones are sold with 10.15. but an older/used Mac should be fine as long as it is using 10.10 or newer.
  • Windows - ones using a 32-bit operating system (most are 64-bit) are not compatible. ones using an ARM64 processor are not compatible. but beyond that Windows 7, 8 or 10 will work with Covenant Eyes.
  • Windows Surface RT tablets - not being produced anymore, but not compatible
  • Amazon Fire tablets - not compatible with Screen AccountabilityTM
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick, Smart TVS, gaming consoles, and VR headsets - not compatible due to being totally different technology.
I hope that info gives you some direction, but please reach out again if I  misunderstood your question. Also, if you want immediate interaction, use our live chat service (go to the main CE page) or call our team at 877.479.1119. Any member of the team would be happy to help!
