New iOS idea!

I found an awesome iOS solution you all should look at. Netsanity.net is a parental solution that is system wide and very effective on iOS. They are brand new. I am using a trial for my son for school, but you all could take this to another level as a Christian organization. I have tried MANY iOS solutions for my son's school iPad as the school requires they use specific apps with built in browsers. After using netsanity.net it really is system wide internet monitoring, social media apps included, on iOS. Please check it out. My son and I will be the guinea pigs! :)

It appears the guys at netsanity just use password protected profiles. Essentially its a locked on vpn. That said you have all the controls you would in a corporate profile. App blocking, even disabling Internet all together. I'll look into time of day restrictions.

I should add this isn't a great accountability solution. You can't set up email notifications and it doesn't clearly prioritize the data stream on the reports. This isn't a Christian project. I think the guys could capitalize on the tech though. If you could combine CE reporting and the system wide monitoring it would be a great solution.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for taking the time to post thoughtful insights and reviews, we really appreciate the passion for our mission!

We can confirm what you have said, they use a password protected profile which locks a particular VPN. Their "App Locking" appears to be restricting app data from passing through on a per API basis, which is a rather cool implementation of VPN technology. Certainly they look really impressive on paper, in practice there are some limitations to a true VPN solution, (although the device wide coverage is certainly attractive)

All of that aside, we are still working on our own version of device wide coverage for iOS. When we are able to deliver it, (it is still a ways off) we will be able to have the best of both worlds, device wide coverage with the reporting and accountability features you have come to expect from us.

I know it is tough to hear that "have patience" is still our response on iOS, but believe me when I say that we are VERY excited about the direction we are heading, and that as soon as we have something to share, we will.

John, what about that Time of Day Blocking for the iPhone coming along? :) This is the one feature that is keeping me from purchasing the product.

It is a feature we certainly plan to implement at some point (if only because we offer it on our other platforms). I cant really speak to a timeline however, because of the loads of backend work that is happening to make our app faster, more stable, better, (stronger)

I will ping our team and see if we can get any sort of estimate, but for now i do not have one, sorry

No worries at all. I appreciate all you guys do! I am old enough I still do almost everything on a traditional computer (Mac). Covenant Eyes is great for me. My kids are a different story. They are nearly exclusively on their mobile devices. Helping them find a solution has been more difficult. Keep up the good work! Sounds like something is in process. Netsanity may be our temporary fix for the kids.

Alexis as a dad I understand the frustration. When the kids were younger it was much easier to limit and monitor their online activity. Now my son has a school issued iPad with required apps that give him limitless Internet access. He is a good kid with a great heart and wants to honor God. I told my wife I will do everything I can to help him out. I think you may have to do what we are doing. Paying for multiple solutions to achieve our purity objective. We already use covenant eyes and probably add netsanity until CE comes up with a solution.
