iTunes, AppleTv, and Covenant Eyes not friendly

Your software on my Windows 7 laptop has absolutely blocked iTunes from working with AirPlay on my AppleTV. I troubleshot this issue for almost a month. After working through all the possibilities I figured out that your software blocks UDP port 5353 from streaming through the mDNSresponder service to iTunes.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us, I apologize for the difficulties.

This is a known issue between Covenant Eyes and a program called Bonjour, which is required for Apple networking. The mDNSresponder service that you refer to is a part of Bonjour.

This bug has been reported by other Covenant Eyes members and it has been documented in our bug tracking system. I have added your post to our documentation. The detail that you provided is helpful and I will be sure to pass it on to our Product Development and Quality Assurance teams.

We do hope to correct this bug and I will be sure to let you know if I hear anything further. I want to thank you for your submission but I do apologize again for this issue.

Best regards,

Trevor Corbin

travaglione,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you are experiencing. The first step would be to make sure you have the latest version of Covenant Eyes. As of today, that would be version 7.2.41.  If you already have that version, there could several other possibilities for the apparent conflict. In that case, the best step to take would be to call our Customer Service Team at 877-479-1119 so a team member could serve you.

I have the same problem, and like you, I have tried many, many things to diagnose including shutting down firewalls, switching wireless routers, uninstalling antivirus, and more. So glad, at least, to know that this is the problem so I can stop looking!

Trevor, any idea of when the fix will be delivered? I can't wait to fully use Apple TV!

Matt and deanfd09, I have added your reports of this issue to our bug tracking system. Each time a bug is reported, our Product Development and Quality Assurance teams are alerted and this helps raise awareness and priority of a particular issue, such as this.

Unfortunately, I do not have an idea of an ETA for this fix. I will keep you posted and will be sure to let you know if I hear anything further.

Thank you for your patience, and thank you for reporting your difficulties.

Best regards,

Trevor Corbin

I have a similar problem. The TiVo Desktop software uses Bonjour to discover TiVos on your network so you can transfer shows back and forth between your PC and TiVos. Mine cannot "see" the TiVos on my network with CovenantEyes installed. CE support has said they don't know what the problem is - it seems pretty straightforward. - as the first person said, CovenantEyes is somehow blocking UDP port 5353. Please fix this CovenantEyes!

I have a similar problem sharing Itunes libraries from one computer to another. I sent in a report late October in which I received much the same response. I do not wish to be a bother, but hope that this helps to raise awareness so that a fix will be forthcoming.

Me too! Please make this a priority. Also is keeping me from using Euphonix Artist Series Controllers for my music production work as they apparently rely on bonjour as well. :( :( :(

I spent between 16-20 hours on this problem, paid for Apple tech support, and even had a Windows technician come and look at why my Airport Utility, and Airtunes had quit working on my Vista machine. I don't know if it is there now, but this was NOT a "known" problem listed on the covenanteyes.com website. That might have saved me a bunch of time and money if it had been. We had finally concluded it was a Vista problem, so i upgrade both my machines to Win7, and only then, when i loaded covenant eyes and my airport utility quit working did we know the problem was covenant eyes. Wow, that was frustrating.

travaglione,

Because this thread refers to a much older set of circumstances, make sure you have the latest version of Covenant Eyes for your device. If you do and you're still experiencing technical difficulties, then please call our Customer Service Team at 877-479-1119.

This is a serious problem which should be addressed as soon as possible. My business relies upon that type of sharing. If this does not get resolved, I could get let go...

We have a developer currently immersing himself in this bug, but it has the highest difficulty rating that a project card can be classified at so I don't have an ETA on it yet. We do know it is there, though, and are working on a solution.

This problem is crippling. Not only am I unable to utilize my Apple TV, but I also cannot sync my financial software (MoneyWell) between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone.

Covenant Eyes: I know you are working on this, but please get it right!

Hey gang! Bill, one of our Quality Assurance Practitioners, just stopped by to give me an update on this bug. We are still working on fixing this, but I have good news!

Bill informed me that updating to the latest version of iTunes should fix your Home Sharing and other Bonjour related issues.

Has anyone tried this yet? Let me know how this works out!

If that is the case, then that _should_ solve my problem with the Tivo Desktop sofware working with Covenant Eyes, since the Tivo Desktop software uses Bonjour to discover TiVos on the network. I'll try it out and let you know.

Well.... I've got good news and bad news.

The good news is that the diagnostic application that comes with TIvo Desktop _does_ "see" the TiVos on my network when I try the "TiVos on your network" test.

However, the tivo server crashes every time it starts, as long as CovenantEyes is installed.

So I guess bonjour works, but there is still some problem with the TiVo Desktop software and CovenantEyes.

Oh well...

Thanks for getting back to me so fast, Rich. I will pass that feedback on to Bill. By the way, what version of Windows are you using, XP, Vista, or 7? And, do you have 32-bit or 64-bit?

Has anyone else had any results after updating iTunes?

At this point I'm not sure who's quicker at responding! I hope you're not as obsessed with email as I am! ;)

I ran this by Bill. He and I both agree that it would be good to remove all things Apple related from your computer, and then reinstall them. This includes iTunes, Bonjour, Quicktime, etc. That way, when you reinstall them, we can be sure that you are getting the most updated versions.

We're still trying to figure this out too and you have been a big help. Once you reinstall your Apple software, I would be grateful if you would try Covenant Eyes once more and let me know what happens.

If you would like any help with this, feel free to give me a call. Our toll free line is 877.479.1119. Just ask for me!
