iTunes, AppleTv, and Covenant Eyes not friendly

Your software on my Windows 7 laptop has absolutely blocked iTunes from working with AirPlay on my AppleTV. I troubleshot this issue for almost a month. After working through all the possibilities I figured out that your software blocks UDP port 5353 from streaming through the mDNSresponder service to iTunes.

OK...let me make something clear - I am specifically testing using TiVo Desktop software, which USES Bonjour, not any particular features of iTunes itself.

I have not had any trouble with iTunes, or syncing my iPhone, or anything like that with CovenantEyes installed. I do not use the AirPlay feature, however.

I am very reluctant to uninstall iTunes, becuase (1) I am pretty vigilant about regularly checking for updates with AppleSoftwareUpdate, so there is no reason to believe that I do not have the latest Apple software, and (2) I have a pretty large iTunes library, and I'd hate to have to reimport and reorganize everything and reset all my iphone settings, etc, etc.

So, I can't promise that I'll do what you ask there...I'll think about it, but I'm dubious that it will make a difference and it will be a rather large hassle.

FYI - I am a software developer myself, with 18 years experience.

Certainly, Rich, it's up to you if you want to try that or not. I wouldn't be too excited about importing all of my files again either!

We're still working on fixing the issue in our client. We didn't intend upgrading iTunes to be a fix for everyone, but we saw some good results here and we wanted to put it out there for people to try. We're hoping that it will help some people with Bonjour related issues, but for the most part, it will probably have a positive effect on people that had issues with iTunes Home Sharing.

Wow! 18 years in the software development field! Let me just say how glad I am to have someone of your caliber so active in our forum. We appreciate your feedback very much! Please feel free to contribute any time with your questions or suggestions.

Has anyone else had luck with iTunes Home Sharing after upgrading iTunes?

Yes, my Apple TV now sees my Computer library. Thanks CE, and I hope others find success whether through the itunes upgrade or the eventual software fix on CE.

Thanks very much for sharing this, Matt! I'm glad to hear that this worked for you. By the way, what version of Windows are you running on that computer?

Good news gang! We have officially released an update to our Windows client to fix the compatibility with iTunes Home Sharing and other Bonjour related issues. Our own testing has confirmed that the iTunes Home Sharing issues are fixed with this release.

However, some of you had more specific issues with TiVo Desktop, Apple TV, syncing between iPhone and computer, etc. I would be very interested to see if our latest release solves these issues.

To upgrade to our latest release go to our website, log in, and install version 4.4.7.1816 (either 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your operating system).

Let me know if this version fixes your issue!

Well, this version DOES fix the issue with iTunes sharing.

However, my TiVo Desktop software still doesn't like it one bit. The Tivo Server service gives up the ghost with the wonderfully descriptive error "An internal error occurred."

So, improvement, but still not where I would like to be. I'd like to get my Tivo software back. Thanks for the update, though!

Well... NOW I have completely UNINSTALLED Covenant Eyes, rebooted, cleaned up Tivo Desktop and tried to reinstalled. Same problem.

Hello richswww, I believe I have located your account, at least I found an account with the username richswww and the account is inactive. If you install Covenant Eyes with an inactive username you will not be able to access the internet.

If you would like to reactivate your account please contact our Customer Service Team toll-free at 877-479-1119 to speak with one of our reps or send an email to support@covenantyeyes.com.

Um, no. I have cancelled my Covenant Eyes account and uninstalled the software, and it appears that it is STILL interfering with Tivo Desktop.

If you have removed the Covenant Eyes software from your computer it is not capable of interfering with the Tivo Desktop.

You may contact our Customer Service Team at 877-479-1119 for assistance if you still believe the problem to be caused by Covenant Eyes.

That's an awfully broad statement. Software after being uninstalled does not always reliably remove all settings and components it added, or undo system changes it made. It's just too coincidental that the same problem that existed after I originally installed CE (and did NOT exist beforehand) still exists after I uninstalled it. I guess I will call CE customer service, but from your response, I don't expect them to be able to do much more.

Hi, I have just installed Covenant Eyes. Glad to have a proper accountability program now :)

But unfortunately I cannot make any connection with iTunes anymore since I installed it :( It worked before. I have the latest version of iTunes and Covenant Eyes. Is there something that I can change in the configuration to fix this?

Ah, yes. Our customer service folks have seen this problem and do have a fix which is detailed by Trevor here: iTunes 10.4 conflicts with CE 4.4.8.1826. Check it out and let us know if it solves the problem for you.

Unfortunately, with iTunes 10.5 the connection problems came back, even though I haven't installed Safari or the Bonjour service and followed the same procedure that worked for earlier versions. Can you look into this?

This does not work for me. I have the latest iTunes and Covenant Eyes. I cannot stream/airplay to my AppleTV from my Mac due to your program. Please fix! Thanks.

@drouse83, I apologize for the interruption in your use of AppleTV, this is not an issue that our Members are reporting so it is something we are going to need to explore.

Our records indicate that you may have just upgraded your version of Covenant Eyes, so for a temporary fix I am going to ask one of our Customer Service Reps to give you a call and help you revert to the previous version of Covenant Eyes you were using. This will at least allow you to remain protected by Covenant Eyes and use AppleTV.

We will explore the issue you are experiencing further next week.

travaglione,

Thanks for asking!

1) These days we do not usually run into a conflict with iTunes. What often fixes it is an uninstall/reinstall of the Covenant Eyes program. If that doesn't work for you, please call Customer Support at 877-479-1119. They are equipped to troubleshoot the situation and get things working smoothly for you.

2) The other thread you posted in is more current and the subject matter is very similar -  https://helpforum.covenanteyes.com/covenanteyes/topics/windows-10-icloud  And no matter what thread you post in, we will be notified and respond as quickly as possible.

Thanks again for posting! We look forward to smoothing things out.

Robert
