Issues with CE and VPN client router

My media server at home is connected to a tomato router configured with openVPN to connect to an expressvpn server in Jersey. The issue is not very apparent as it does not happen until the machine is at idle for quite some time. I have Glasswire Pro running on said machine and i am able to see all network traffic and create exceptions for incoming and outgoing traffic. I have exceptions for all CE related executables, and can see traffic flowing through the ceproxy.exe. that being said, when the machine is at idle, for sometimes short periods of time it reports DNS issues when attempting to visit a website or visit an internal resource such as a routers config page. f i switch the connection over to my router that is seperated from the VPN connection it still will not resolve, I have attempted to flush DNS,release and renew ip config to no avail. It seems as if the only thing that allows the machine to re initiate connection to any network is to restart it. My mind is boggled and I have not stumbled across anything in the forums here.
