iPhone battery drain

I apologize if this has been covered but most of what I found on the search was for android devices.  But ever since the new iphone app came out with the VPN and other features, my iphone, which is an iphone 7, has just been going through the battery like crazy.  In the past I would rarely go under 50% over the course of a day and now I'm under 50% before lunch.  I use an app to track my screen time and it even said today I was at 37% with only 1:20 of screen time.  I can think of no other change to my phone other than the new CE app.  When I check battery usage everything appears normal and there aren't any outliers, so I'm not sure what gives.  Would appreciate any help.  Thanks,

Travis,

Sorry for the slow response. I've experienced that too, but not as dramatically as you have. I would try turning off Background Refresh for the apps you don't need or use much; be sure to leave it on for CE. I would also uninstall CE, reboot the phone and reinstall CE.

Great work on the app and VPN! Same issue here though. Prioritising a fix on this would be super appreciated. Using iPhone 6s and I’ve never seen the battery drain so quick. Cheers for the support. P.S. I’ve just updated to the latest iOS and have resinstalled covenant eyes so will try that.

Forgot to mention that I’ve also installed DNS override as a precaution. This doesn’t actively use the VPN feature but just forces a DNS re-route from what I understand. this will be my temporary back up of Covenant Eyes continues to drain the battery. Having this installed as a VPN profile wouldn’t conflict would it?

Luke,

Thanks for posting and we appreciate the kind words. As you can imagine, we're excited that it has finally moved from concept to reality.

As I mentioned earlier, any feedback helps us know what to prioritize for additional development. Let us know the results of the steps you took. As far as DNS Override, I really don't know. It looks like it has the potential to be in conflict but you never know until you try it. Post an update if/when you can.

Thanks again for posting!

My iPhone 8Plus has the same issue, I also notice periodic problems with some apps being able to actually establish good connectivity.

Over the past 7 days my phone indicates 52% of the battery has been consumed by covenant eyes with only 1 minute on screen?

I have uninstalled, reinstalled a few times. It always performs better for a day or so after a reboot. But eventually works itself back into whatever state it’s in currently.

Stephen,

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's not impossible but it seems a little strange. I say that because the iOS users I have spoken with have had CE battery consumption in the single digits.

I would check the following:
Is iOS up to date? (latest version is 11.2.5)
Have you rebooted the whole device lately?
Do you have a bunch of apps open?
Have you turned off 'Background App Refresh' for apps you don't use every day?

Post an update when you have a chance, or call us at 877-479-1119.

Thanks again for sharing,

Robert

Hello, I consistently close apps I’m not using. I update iOS as soon as updates are available ( I’m currently downloading - missed this one ). And most of my apps have background refresh off. But since I don’t normally keep them open. It’s not an issue.

Stephen,

Thanks for the info and quick reply. Let me ask you (and anyone else experiencing this type of battery drain) to do the following:
  1. Open the CE app.
  2. Tap the address/search bar at the top of the page.
  3. Type in 'sendlogs://' and tap the 'Go' button.
  4. An email screen should appear with the Subject line filled in and a diagnostic log attached.
  5. Type in anything you'd like to add, or not.
  6. Press 'Send'.
That email/info will go to the Development Team, and they will be able to take a better look at the situation. Hopefully they can find a common, and fixable, thread.

Thanks again,

Robert
