iOS Browser keeps crashing

This is something I've noticed, both with the Beta TestFlight version and finally with the current App Store version.  The iOS browser works fine after installation for a few days.  Then, it gets to the point where, when I launch the browser, the page is blank with a URL loading, and the progress bar in the address bar reaches about 80% , then the browser crashes.  It does this every time when I launch.  If I uninstall the app and reinstall, it will work fine for a while, but then it will get to this point again.  I don't think it is any particular webpage; it was doing it at one point for Facebook, now it's doing it for Twitter.

Hi Chance,

Have you called our Customer Service department yet? I'm not sure which version iOS app you are running, but if it's happening with the Beta version as well, I'm concerned there may be a setting on your phone we need to update?

Can you call us if this still persists? tel: 877.479.1119 hr: 0800-0000 M-F EST, 1000-1800 Sa.

Thanks!

Heather

I can try to call sometime.  I thought I would let you know...my CE Data storage on my phone was over 200 MB.  Same with iCloud.  I cleared out the iCloud storage and deleted and reinstalled CE.  It seems like the storage on my phone grows substantially.  Earlier it was around 20 MB.  Then it grew to 30 something. Now it's at 45 MB.  That seems high.

I did call and she mentioned that a new version was out yesterday.  I uninstalled and am trying the new one.  While it hasn't started crashing yet, the storage of the CE data is now up to 82 MB, and that's for probably less than an hour of browsing between yesterday and so far today.

I had called customer service myself. I feel as though the beta was released too soon. There is a new update but it still crashes periodically which requires me to reinstall the app. This is very frustrating.

It also doesn't work when I read articles on NY Times. It won't let me scroll down to read more of the article.

My browser hasn't crashed yet, but my current iCloud storage usage is 586 MB, and Storage on the phone is 216 MB, so I do feel that there is an issue there.

Yes. As soon as it came out. It is still crashing. The only way it stops crashing is if I reboot the ipad.

All,

I've been going through and updating these posts with the info below. I hope it helps!

I'm sorry for the frustration. We are still waiting on the new release. However, one of our CSRs found a fix for now until the update is out:

  1. Open up the 'Settings' app and go to the section call 'iCloud.'
  2. Go to the section called 'iCloud Drive.' >>If it says 'Off' next to it, go ahead and click on it and then select the option 'Upgrade to iCloud Drive.' This may take a few minutes for the process to finish.<<
  3. On the next page switch the slider from 'On' to 'Off.'
Keep an eye out for the update. Once you've updated, you can go back and undo the above process.

Thanks for your patience,

Heather

FYI, None of my apps have updated since Dec. 23, so there's probably a lot of other developers in your spot as well.

This describes me perfectly:
" Then, it gets to the point where, when I launch the browser, the page is blank with a URL loading, and the progress bar in the address bar reaches about 80% , then the browser crashes."
downloaded latest version of Covenant Eyes ipad app as of 1/4/2016.   well see if this fixes it..   it was really bad.    I'll try removing it from the iCloud backup list, it makes sense that I don't want the browser being backup up...

Even shutting off iCloud doesn't totally fix it. Mine is off and it still crashes often depending on the website. I came across a blog the other day that crashed the browser and when I reopened it the blog tried to reload again. The app was unusable. I had to delete it and reinstall. I really wish there was a system wide solution. There are a few os holes beyond restricting safari and the App Store my boys and I found that I won't mention for the sake of struggling iOS users that can't be undone unless safari could be monitored. Even with a flawless browser the loopholes pose a real problem.

It may be time to resubmit the app? Everything else has been updating for a few days and still nothing for Covenant Eyes.

Hi Mike,

Did you receive the new app yet? It was updated at the App Store late last week (finally).

Thanks,

Heahter

Is there a way I can get involved with the beta testflight as well?

Hi John,

The version I had asked the above gentlemen to try was our latest release to the App Store, v. 3.0.3.3. I looked at your account and that is the one you have, so you should be all set.

Are you having issues with it?

If you are looking to beta test the un-released version, let me know and I'll put you in touch. (heather.deason@covenanteyes.com)

Thanks,

Heather
