InstaGram Filter/Accountability

My son recently confided in me that he has easy access to (and has real problems now with) pornography through InstaGram. His reports always come up clean. I had no idea he was struggling with this. Is this something Covenant Eyes can monitor/filter, or is he going to have to simply be advised to remove it from his phone and not use InstaGram anymore? Please help.

I'm not sure there would be a reliable way to block porn from Instagram; most Instagram posts are just pictures, with maybe a few hashtags attached. There is no current technology that can filter a picture that doesn't have words attached to it, and any porn posted on Instagram is not going to have "keywords" that the CE filter would catch that the Instagram filter already didn't catch. I think it would be better for him to remove the application from his phone.

On the same note, Covenant Eyes can ONLY work on your son's phone if he has NO other way to access the internet except through CE. Any applications that have access to the internet can access porn with CE knowing; the phone filter only works through the CE app. So if you want to remove his access to porn, he needs to delete ANY app with access to the internet. Apps to name a few: Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Youtube, Pinterest, Safari (or any web browser).

Thanks for the reply, Joshua. Your point re: other apps is true if Brett's son has an iPhone. If he's on Android, our coverage is broader. Still, though, it sounds like the best avenue for interrupting the habit is a clean break from instagram for quite a while. Joshua's point is well-made; even on a desktop our visibility into instagram is somewhat limited. Thanks for asking, Brett. I'm encouraged by your work and concern on your son's behalf. He's better off than most given that he has an engaged, loving dad!
