How, exactly, does the time blocking feature work?

I am wondering how the time of day blocking works. At the moment my wife and I are both signed up for accountability only. She is the account manager and my accountability partner. If we add filtering to our account would we both need to add it? We would want my wife to be able to control when I have access to the internet. Also, does this work in real time? If my wife is away on a business trip, for example, can she activate the time blocking feature any time she wants and shut down the internet on my laptop?

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your post! You asked some great questions.

First, no, your wife does not have to have filtering in order to manage the filter. If she would like to be filtered while browsing online then she could definitely add the service, but it is not necessary for the sole purpose of managing your filter settings. Once filtering is added to your username she then can set herself up as the Filter Guardian, the one who manages the filter.

For your second question, the short answer is yes. She can make changes to the time blocking feature and it can be implemented immediately, however, when any changes are made to our filter service Covenant Eyes does require a 'refresh' for those changes to take effect. So, if she were to make changes to time blocking while you were on the computer the changes would not be applied until you refreshed the Covenant Eyes software or restarted the computer. If your computer is shut off or asleep, though, when your wife makes changes to the blocked times then they would be applied when you go to use your computer.

I hope this helped answer your questions. If you have any more please feel free to contact our Customer Service at 877.479.1119. We're available Monday-Friday from 8am-11:45pm EST and on Saturdays from 10am-5:45 EST.

Best regards,
