Hello, how do I remove the Covenant Eyes icon from the menu bar for MacOS? I have tried to remove it by holding the "Command" key, and dragging it off, but that doesn't work. Any ideas?

Hello Anomical,

Thank you for your post! Unfortunately, there is not a way to hide our icon from the menu bar on the Mac. On Macs, the Command key and dragging only works with system icons (wifi, clock, battery, Bluetooth etc), not with user installed software. Also, all of the settings for our software on your Mac are housed inside of the icon so access to our icon is very beneficial.

If you have any further questions feel free to contact our Customer Service at 877.479.1119.

Best regards,
Annelise

I use 'bartender' to hide almost all menu bar apps - https://www.macbartender.com

Great suggestion - costs $15, but probably worth it for those for whom that's important.

I run a business in a studio behind my house.

There are 6 Macintosh computers for the business. My son and a friend work for me. As a recovering sex addict who acts out on the internet, I am not ready to disclose my problem to them.
My wife wants monitoring and blocking software on all of the computers, and I understand the need and reason for it.
I was resistant to having monitoring software that my son and friend would notice.
So an eyeball on the computer, signaling to the people who work for me that something is new was an issue for me.

My therapist has made the distinction between secret and private.
Secret is not telling my partner about my acting out.
Private is not putting my internet problem in front of my employees, or showing my full name on this post.

Here's how I configured Bartender for my scenario.
I set that the Covenant Eyes icon would only appear in the Bartender menu.
(In Menu items, select Covenant Eyes and select "Show in Bartender menu bar - Hidden")
Other settings:
In General,
checked Launch Bartender at login
Bartender items checked Autohides
Appearance, unchecked Visible
Hot Keys: I created a hot key [Shift][Option][Command] M
(this will show the Covenant Eyes icon if you need it to)

Updates: unchecked Check for updates (so this doesn't run when say my son is using a computer)
License: Buy the license and use the email from Bartender to add the license code to the app.

The bartender app has the side effect of moving item on the menu bar to not typical places, specifically the spotlight icon ended up on the left. Which looks odd. To put the spotlight icon back in its normal place, know that you can [command] click on an icon in a Mac menu bar and drag it where you want.

Other considerations with browsers.
Covenant Eyes will install extensions on Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
These extension monitor that a browser has directly gone to a URL, as opposed to a part of webpage coming from a certain URL.

These extensions will also put an Eye icon on the extensions bar in each browser.
To hide this Eye icon:
In Safari [command][click] on the Eye icon and drag it off the toolbar, it will disappear with a little puff
In Chrome [right click] or [option][click] and select Hide in Chrome menu
In Firefox [right click] or [option][click] and select Remove from Toolbar
