Help with Galaxy S6

Good Morning, I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S6, it's my first smart phone in years. I had an iPhone when they first came out but after some significant failures I gave it up. My questions are regarding the Android operating system. I thought that it would not be an issue to get a smartphone again, but it is and I need to lock this device down. Is that possible? It seems that this OS is pretty porous. I want to be able to lock this device down so I cannot install apps without my accountability partner being involved in the process. I have to travel for work, sometimes quite a lot and I want my wife to be able to see where I am, what I have accessed on the internet, what apps are running on my device. And I want to disable anything that would allow me to override or get by the safeguards. In short I am asking is there a way to make this device safe for me to keep, because if I can't lock it down I have to get rid of it.

Hey Josh

Welcome back to the smartphone world!

We can certainly help you lock down your device. If you are a Covenant Eyes user, simply download out app from the Android Beta Thread here on Get Satisfaction & you can use our built in App Locking to restrict access to the Google Play store (and any other app repositories)

If you are not a CE user, I would recommend looking into APP LOCK. They are a free app that we used to recommend using alongside Covenant Eyes (before we built our own app locking tool)

Thanks for your desire to keep yourself safe online. Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Josh,
I have the Galaxy S5 with the newest Beta version of CE, it's not the S6 but its close to the same. My wife has done a thorough inspection of the phone with CE and the apps I want to use. One awesome thing about the current CE Beta is the VPN. To the best of my knowledge, the VPN keeps all of your browsing tracked, regardless of the app used. So even if you do find a hidden point of access within an app, it's tracked.

CE works great on the app locking on my device too. I would suggest locking down the system settings though. As much as it is an inconvenience, we've disabled some of the built in features through the app manager that CE hasn't been able to control yet (allowing access I don't even want available). Then disabling settings removes the temptation to just go in and turn those features back on.

Regardless of how well you remove the access, the "hot coals" (Prov. 6:27-28), some people still find holes in their setup. That's where I love the VPN feature and app monitoring. My wife, who is also my accountability partner, and I have a rule of thumb: If I find a way to enable and open an app that we know is on my do not use or blocked list - I am guilty already. This helps eliminate temptations, and helps her know that I remain blameless because I don't even allow those hot coals in my life.

If you have questions in your setup, post them here, I would love to help you out and I'm sure the S5 and the S6 are very similar except in some of the upgraded features.

Thanks for your reply Jesse. My wife has my phone right now and she will be my accountability partner as well so it sounds like we have some similarities. Depending on how this evening goes the two of us may sit down and load the software and then let her play with it a while. We may be reaching out to you if we run into problems or if she or I have questions. Thanks!
