Has anyone, including the devs at CE, tried installing the CE app as a system app on Android?
I know this isn't a good idea for commercial use. However, I think if one did this on an open Android device like the Pixel or OnePlus you could make Covenant Eyes fairy bullet proof and have a fully usable device. I am tempted to buy a pixel 3a and try it. Before I do, I wondered if someone else has done this? My hope is you could seal up the primary hole(s) in Android that we have found and have a much more usable device than our current iOS setup. I know I carry all the risk etc. Again, I'm not asking about this as a commercial option. As a fairly technically savvy dad I am only curious about it for our home.

Mike,

Thanks for asking! I appreciate your desire to help out your family with every tool and skill at your disposal!

If by the term "open" you mean "rooted," then, as far as I know, no devs at CE have tried installing CE on a rooted device. One of them may have, out of curiosity, but, as a business strategy, it wouldn't really merit the investment of research. As you can imagine, if we advised people to root their devices (and possibly void their warranty or brick their phone) in order to use CE, it wouldn't go over very well. Most people aren't that tech savvy and aren't willing to take that risk.

If you have some success, let us know. I'll be sure to pass that update along to the development team. Keep up the good work of looking out for your family!

Thanks for the response. We were playing around with ways to prevent or negate safe mode. It dawned on me that simply moving the CE app from the user app file to the system app folder might do just that.

Actually, simply adding some form of a flag or notification that a reboot took place in the CE report would help a lot. Though there would be gaps in the report at least it would flag me, as the dad, that a reboot took place. That alone could trigger a productive conversation.
