Google Pixel XL

I purchased a Google Pixel XL (pre-ordered, eta Nov 28) as my new phone. I was excited to see new features in android, like Google assistant, rapid devise updates, and a plethora of new features.

When the email went out that the android app was being updated I now have many questions.

Will the search widget at the top still work?
Will my activation phrase still be able to launch apps? (A feature is that you say "hey Google, how do I get to x address" and it opens Google maps to that address)
Does CE support the current version of Android?
Will Dropbox still work (I need this for my employment)
Can I even use Google assistant?

I don't use filtering because CE doesn't work with google based university email. After several messages to CE they just took filtering off my account. (I think it also caused my office to temporarily deactivate, but that could have only been the regular part of CE, as other users had this problem) I would like filtering, but I need to be able to use my university email.

Like most state university's, they use the education email service Google provides. My university said I need to contact Google. Google told me they can only give support to my university's it administrator. My it administrator remotely logged into my computer and found out CE, with filtering, was improperly handling network authentication. CE would not pass on a essential cookie or at least part of the essential cookie. My university's it administrator told me to contact CE. All of a sudden it started working. Little did I know that the filtering was turned off, but the problem remains.

Now I don't know if I can still use my pre-ordered phone, or if my old moto x pure will work properly. I use moto-enhancements to use some features w/o touching the phone. I like those features. Now I may not be able to use them.

Hello Dylan,

Thank you for contacting and thank you for your great questions! With us limiting your browser access you might see some changes in the availability of some applications, but not all.

1. The search widget will NOT be blocked. We can successfully monitor and filter inside of it.
2. "Hey Google..." should still work on your phone. Any apps that would be blocked from Covenant Eyes due to unmonitored browsing access will still open, but load a page from Covenant Eyes alerting you it was blocked for being an unmonitored browser.
3. Covenant Eyes WILL support the latest version of Android.
4. Dropbox should still work.
5. From speaking with our developers, Google Assistant should still work and not be blocked by Covenant Eyes, unless it attempts to open an app that would be blocked from Covenant Eyes due to unmonitored browsing access.

If you have any further questions or you experience difficulties with our new Android app feel free to contact our Customer Service at 877.479.1119.

Best regards,
Annelise

Just received word from customer support. Google assistant is NOT supported. What happens when I use it? Does it crash my phone?

Hello Dylan,

You can still use Google Assistant. It will not crash your phone if you do use it. If Google Assistant attempts to open an app that Covenant Eyes would block normally either due to filter settings or because it's an unmonitored browser then you will receive a blocked message. You should still be able to ask for directions, ask to call or text someone, do a search etc, but you might run into a block from Covenant Eyes when it attempts to open certain applications.

I hope this helps!
