Google Backup and Sync blocked by Covenant Eyes for G Suite accounts.

The "Google Backup and Sync" windows application does not work with a G Suite account with Covenant Eyes installed.

It works fine with my personal Google account but not when trying to sign in to my G Suite account (gives a sign-in error). After not finding any help online or others with a similar issue, I suspected CE, uninstalled CE, and then was able to sign-in and start syncing files. I then attempted to reinstall CE, restarted my computer and unfortunately it no longer functions correctly. So it appears CE is blocking some needed functionality for Google Backup and Sync at least with G Suite accounts.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Nathan,
Thanks for posting in this forum. I can assist you with this. Do you have accountability and filtering? You may need to adjust your filter settings to allow Google Backup and Sync. If you use the Covenant Eyes filter, input these websites into your Allow List:

gsuite.google.com
accounts.youtube.com
client4.google.com
accounts.google.com
gstatic.com
myaccount.google.com
client2.google.com
apis.google.com
client6.google.com
drive.google.com
ssl.gstatic.com
tbn.l.google.com
googleapis.com
ggpht.com

Refer to this support article if you need assistance navigating to your Block/Allow List: http://www.covenanteyes.com/support-articles/how-do-i-allow-a-website-through-the-filter/

I hope this helps,

Syd

Hi Nathan,

Let me ask you this-are you switching between a couple of google accounts? Our developers have looked into syncing issues with google drive and noticed that our software seems to hamper sign in between two accounts, but not someone using a single account. Have you tried signing in to just your G Suite account and not switching between your personal account and G Suite account? I'm trying to figure out if this is a G Suite-specific issue or if this is a switching accounts issue.

EDIT- Apologies, I left this thread open without refreshing and did not see Syd's earlier post. Please investigate if it is a filter issue first, and if not, I have some further thoughts.

Hey Syd, thanks for the reply, unfortunately no, I am not using filtering so it's something else.

Hi Nathan,
Thanks for the update! I suspect (as Mark already pointed out) that this bug has to do with the internal nature of the Covenant Eyes software. It is possible that Covenant Eyes is blocking your sign-in to G Suite because you are switching back and forth between your personal and G Suite Google accounts. Mark and I are collaborating on this issue, as Mark as inside knowledge of our Windows platform. Can you answer his previous question:

Have you tried signing in to just your G Suite account and not switching between your personal account and G Suite account? I'm trying to figure out if this is a G Suite-specific issue or if this is a switching accounts issue.

Please post your reply in this forum, and both Mark and I will continue to assist you to the best of our ability.

Hey thanks guys, I didn't see Mark's reply or I would have responded to it. Mark appears to be correct I was trying to use 2 accounts at the same time with Backup and Sync and the second one just happened to be my G Suite account. I signed out with my personal and reloaded Backup and Sync and my G Suite account started syncing. So the switching/multiple accounts does seem to be the problem. I just used the Add New Account option to sync both, but only the first would work and I hadn't tried just signing in with just my G Suite, incorrectly assuming maybe the G Suite accounts used a different port or backend. Glad you are aware of the issue and hope you guys get it sorted out soon. I can work with this in the meantime. Thanks again!
