Frequent Firefox crashes, error report says nmsvTree.dll

Are there any known issues with Covenant Eyes and Firefox? I frequently get Firefox crashes and the error report refers to nmsvTree.dll. I've been experiencing this for the past year and a half. I'm running Windows XP SP3, have the latest Covenant Eyes and Firefox (I've been experiencing this since either Firefox 3.5.x or 3.6.x on).

Chance, thanks for getting back to me. I wanted to let you and Stephen know that we just had another Windows release. We actually changed and improved the very foundation of our client in this latest release and that may have an impact on your issue. When you get a moment I'd be interested to know what happens after you upgrade.

To upgrade to our latest release go to our website, log in, and install version 4.4.7.1816 (either 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your operating system).

Let me know if that helps!

Trevor,
I updated CE. I'll run Firefox for the next few days and see if I get any crashes.
Thanks.

I thought I'd jump in here too. I'm using Chrome (v. 12.0.742.122 m) & having lots of crashes daily where the error is show to be tied to nmsvtree.dll

It's been happening 1/2 dozen to 1 dozen times per day and getting to the point where Chrome is becoming unusable. It happens often when I launch Chrome but also plenty of times when I'm just browsing. When I'm in the middle of browsing I've not been able to tie the crashes to consistent behavior.

I really don't like IE & would prefer not to have to use it.

Any concrete thoughts (other than what's been posted) as to what the issue is?

Thanks.
David

Hey David, thanks for joining in. I'm not a huge fan of IE either so I feel your pain there.

I'm curious; what version of our software are you running? To find out, right click the Covenant Eyes icon by your clock and click "About" or "About Covenant Eyes". Let me know what you find!

Thanks David! Our latest version is 4.4.7.1816. There is a fix in this latest build for some compatibility issues that we had with Chrome. I would recommend upgrading to see if that will correct your crashes.

To upgrade just go to our website and log in. Then install version 4.4.7.1816 (either 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your operating system).

If your crashes continue after upgrading, especially with that high frequency, please let me know!

That's great to hear, David! Thanks for letting me know about that. I am having Chance try Chrome as well. Do you ever use Firefox? If you happen to already have it installed, it would be great to have you test that a bit as well. Chance is still having issues with Firefox. I appreciate the help, David. Let me know if you have any other crashes.

I'll bang on Firefox today & let you know if I have any crashes. I'm currently running Firefox 3.6.16 - though it looks like it's downloading the latest version as we speak....er, type.

Haha. Thanks for doing that. I think the latest version is 4 or 5 now. I know the Firefox beta is 6.0.

Oh yeah....you're right! I guess it's been a while since I used FF. Anyway - I just installed the latest & greatest (according to Mozilla's site). Running 5.0.1 now....

Trevor - Chrome just crashed on me. It was just after I restarted my computer. I launched Chrome & crash - referencing ModName: nmsvtree.dll

Bummer....thought the new release fixed it.

Okay, I've been running with the newest CE for the past 2 days. Firefox has crashed about 4 times. Two consecutive crashes on sgi.com (but I visited it later and it did fine), I believe once during a google search, and another starting up and going to the Google home page.

Should I try Chrome and see how that does?

Thanks for trying that. It would be great if you could try Chrome as well; our friend, David, seems to have had some success with that. Thanks again for testing with me. Let me know what happens!

I started using Chrome for a bit this morning and it had crashed on me, with nmsvtree.dll in the crash report. If you want me to use it more and see if it crashes any more, I can do that.

Chance, have we done any remote support with you yet? At this point I might want to try something like that with you. If you would be interested let me know and we can set up a time that would work best for you.

Trevor, I had done some phone support before, in which they had me use a couple of utilities. This was around last December. I think something next week would work (Aug 8-12).

Trevor,
I just downloaded the latest update to CE (Aug. 4 or 5). Are you aware of any changes that would affect Firefox? If it crashes again I'll try phone support. Do you have a case id or anything?

Hey Trevor, no new updates or anything, but I was considering calling tech support. Is there a specific case number or anything else that would tie my call to the conversation here? Thanks.

Lately I have been running Firefox with the NoScript plugin, (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...) which will not run JavaScript, Flash, etc... unless you specifically allow it. It seems like this has reduced the number of crashes (perhaps because I have to allow it for some sites to run) to about 2 a week instead of 2 a day.

For what it's worth, I've been running Windows 7 x64 with a newer machine for the past month or so, and I've been getting far fewer crashes. Probably about 3 in the past month, as opposed to 3 per day. I know others are having a few issues with Windows 7, CE, and the newer versions of Firefox, but things have been better for me.
