eHarmony blocked due to "NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID"/"This server could not prove that it is www.eharmony.com" errors

Greetings! Unfortunately I'm having an issue with CE and one particular website: www.eharmony.com.

When I go to www.eharmony.com using any browser on my phone, it gives the following error:

"Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.google.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID"

In Chrome, there's an "Advanced" option below the error, and when I go to "Advanced," it says:

"This server could not prove that it is www.eharmony.com; its security certificate does not specify Subject Alternative Names. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection."

If I select "Proceed to www.eharmony.com (unsafe)," it gives a white page that says:

"Covenant Eyes

This site has been blocked due to potentially explicit content.

www.eharmony.com

Powered by CleanBrowsing"

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (a fairly old phone), which is running Android 5.1.1 and CE 5.1.0.10. I have uninstalled and reinstalled CE, refreshed CE several times, cleared cookies, updated my browsers, tried using the eHarmony app, restarted my phone, and also made sure my accountability partners whitelisted www.eharmony.com, but unfortunately no change.

The issue began in December (prior to December, I never had the issue), and it's an issue with my phone only (I don't have the issue on my laptop, which also has CE installed, but I need to find a way to resolve the issue on my phone since I rarely use my laptop).

I really want to avoid removing CE from my phone, so I'm hoping someone might have some ideas for resolving this. I saw there were some posts in this forum for this same NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID error on PCs in the past, but since I'm not having the issue on a PC, they don't seem to apply to my phone. Thank you! Any information you can provide would be very helpful!

WondrousCross,

What you're describing does sound unusual. It would be best to call in, or use chat support, so a Customer Service rep could 1) pull up your account to review settings and 2) work through some troubleshooting steps.

Our team is available at 877-479-1119, or, for international callers, 989-720-8000. Chat support is available when you log into the Covenant Eyes website.

Hi guys,

Are either of you using T-Mobile's service? We've seen, and are working on, some connection issues that seem to crop up on Android devices using T-Mobile data.

If not, what carrier are you on?

For full troubleshooting, please contact Customer Service at 877-479-1119.

Thanks John, looks like I was barking up the wrong tree.

Here's a simple test to see if the situation has something to do with the Covenant Eyes app: use the March Madness app when the Covenant Eyes app is removed. What happens on wifi? What happens on data?

For quicker troubleshooting, please call 877-479-1119. The Customer Service team is available until 11:45 pm (ET). They'll be able to look at the settings on your account and take a closer look at what's going on.
