Does the Pokémon GO iOS app have a built-in browser making it unsafe for use? Interested in getting this app but not willing to risk it unless I have assurance that it doesn't have a way to access a un-monitored web browser within the app.
Hi Kevin, Thanks for the post! We haven't officially done any testing with Pokemon GO and cannot guarantee that it doesn't allow for circumvention. That being said, I have the iOS application on my personal device, and there are several sections that take you to Niantic sites. A cursory check into this after reading your post suggests that these are closed navigations: I can get to their support site, for instance, but I cannot type a web address in and browse freely from there. Again, this has not been tested and we can't guarantee there's no way around this, but it doesn't appear that Pokemon GO has a browser intentionally built in.
Thanks Samantha, that does help. If there's any way to get from Niantic's site to YouTube, Google Plus, or any other Google operated site (which I think is likely) it won't be safe - won't go into why for the safety of others but I certainly know any access to the web (even seeming "closed access") within an app spells trouble. I'll err on the side of caution and not play Pokemon GO unless I test the app on my wife's phone first and am 100% sure it's safe.
