Covenant Eyes iphone app dropping wifi?

I have two issues:

1. The iphone app stops working and resets itself.  It does this several times a day.  When it restarts it remembers the same 4 old webpages I visited months ago, but none of my recent pages.

2.  When listening to a podcast through the CE app (not a podcast app) the podcast stops when the screen goes to sleep. '

Trouble is, with so many moving parts (ISP, modem, router, CE app, etc) I have no clue how to solve these issues.  What is the probability the CE app is contributing to the problems?

iphone 7
iOS version 13.3
CE version 5.3.3.1

Ted,

Thanks for posting. Good job sharing those details at the end, it's appreciated.

1. I haven't seen reports of that. What makes your scenario unique is the old webpages showing up, that's odd. Even though the newest version is there, let me encourage you to start with uninstalling the CE app, rebooting the phone, and reinstalling the CE app.

2. I don't think it's the CE app. A few weeks ago someone else mentioned a similar issue, so we tried to recreate it. We tried a few sites with audio files, and every one continued playing after the screen went to sleep.

- Are any other apps exhibiting similarly unique behavior?
- Does the iPhone® use a VPN other than CE?
- Does the iPhone® have an MDM (mobile device manager)?
- If Safari is enabled, do audio files play through Safari when the screen sleeps?

I appreciate what you're saying about so many moving parts. The complexity of solving these things is real. It is hard to tell which factor is "the" factor that is causing an issue. A typical way to figure it out is to remove one factor at a time. If someone has trouble accessing site, one of the factors is the signal, does the problem happen on wifi and on data? Answering that narrows down things. If someone figured out that the problem was only on wifi, they could a) just use data all the time, or b) check their wifi for filters/parental controls or contact their ISP. There would still be some things to check out, but, they'd be getting closer to "the" factor.

In this case, you could remove CE and see how well audio files play in another browser.

Best wishes,

Robert

Thank you Robert for the comprehensive response.

Regarding problem 1 (iphone app stops working and resets itself) , I will uninstall and reinstall the CE app and report if this helps or not after a day or two of use.

Regarding problem 2 (podcast stops when the screen goes to sleep),
-There are no other apps exhibiting similarly unique behavior.
        - The iPhone® does not use a VPN other than CE.
        - The iPhone® does not have an MDM (mobile device manager).
        - Safari is not enabled.
I do have a workaround:  I choose "Never" for screen locking  and then manually dim the screen during podcasts.  Still annoying when a short time ago podcasts played with no problem.

You're welcome, and thanks for answering the questions. I hope the reinstall process helps out!

If I hear something different about the audio files issue, I'll post here again.

As a follow-up to my initial post, it appears the first problem  (iphone app stops working and resets itself) has been solved by uninstalling and reinstalling Covenant Eyes  as suggested.  So thanks for that suggestion.

The second problem (podcast stops when the screen goes to sleep) has not been solved but I have given up on that problem for now.   I was considering the use of a podcast app but I don't think such apps are visible to the CE browser so I am reluctant to allow such apps.
