CE Social Media App

First of all, I want to say thanks for the great tool you have provided that my wife and I can use to keep me accountable. CE has made a difference for us.

Something I have been thinking of is related to Social Media and I don't know if this has been asked or mentioned by someone else before...There may even be another company that has created this that I haven't come across yet.

The idea is to have a social media app that allows you to have a customized UI based on your needs. For example, disabling search functionality, blocking ads, and blocking certain kinds of notifications like follows or friend requests (in case you get followed/friended by a trashy spam account). The features could be locked by a password set by an accountability partner (in this case my wife). If I ever "needed" to search for someone or accept friends, my wife could do that for me by logging in directly to the social media page. So basically you'd see only your connections and be able to interact as if you were using the original app, with limited opportunity to go digging in the trash.

The main idea here is to have control over features of social media accounts. As I said, maybe there is some other 3rd party app that does this, if so let me know so I can look into it.

I agree with Ben. I think that there SHOULD be a social media application for CE. However, it's utilization should be exclusive to members.

Hey Guys

"Puts on my User Experience Hat"

What goal are you thinking about solving by using this sort of social media app? Would it be a separate platform, or could you import something like a Facebook or Google+ profile?

I understand the problem of ads, (which we are honestly likely to never fully get rid of in Facebook etc due to costs of hosting something like a social media app). What sort of benefit could you bring to the CE community (or just the online community in general) within a new social media experience that you could not in something like Facebook?

just seeking to understand

Hey John,

What I was thinking is more of an app that would import a profile and be essentially a pared down version of the host platform. This way I could see my feed, share, and comment without the ability to search, follow the link trails (which filtering would block in case something in the feed is questionable) , or see promoted content. Perhaps even the ability to track which functions were used in the app.

I understand about the ads. As a side idea, it would be neat if Facebook, etc. offered a subscription based, ad-free experience. I would pay for it.
