Over the weekend, my iPhone Xs running iOS 12.2 started acting weird and I believe it is due to the most recent CE iOS update (Version 5.2.1) that is in the App Store dated 4/26/2019.
I would lose the WiFi connection and be on LTE even though I was near a WiFi access point. I rebooted my phone and nothing changed. I discovered that if I put the phone in Airplane mode for a few seconds and then went back to normal, it would reconnect to WiFi for a few minutes. Then the WiFi icon in the upper right corner of the screen would go off and I'd be back on LTE again. When I went to the Settings page, I would see the text next to the VPN button say "Connecting..." for a couple of seconds, then go back to normal, then go back to "Connnecting..." again. This repeated several times and the only way I get WiFi back, only for a few minutes, it to turn Airplane Mode on/off.
I thought there might be an issue with my home network but the same thing happens on the guest network where I work.
I have been unable to maintain a reliable network connection since this most recent update.
Interestingly, the same version of the app on my iPad works just fine but it is a WiFi only model (no cellular modem).
This is a SERIOUS regression and has made my iPhone Xs virtually unusable. I don't want to remove CE from my phone but this issue with the VPN needs to be root caused and resolved quickly.
If someone from the CE engineering team would like help in debugging the issue, please let me know. I am a software professional and would be happy to help because I think it's a great product.
Thanks in advance,
Derek
