CE blocks Overdrive - is it a worrisome site?

Overdrive is a website used by my local library to facilitate the e-book function.  I would like to access e-books but CE blocks Overdrive.  I don't want to ask my guardian to allow access to Overdrive if it is an inappropriate site.  Anyone familiar with Overdrive?

The site, depending on the library, has a few romance novels with some risqué covers.

Hi Ted,

I think Chance has summed up about the worst of it. There are some books out there which contain pretty explicit material, but it's really hard to say if your library would carry anything like that. I found one book at our local library on overdrive which has been considered very sexual, but I didn't see anything that was written as blatant pornography.

I hope that helps a bit.

I'm a librarian, and I'm a little taken aback that CE blocks Overdrive. It's such a huge and diverse resource that I would have hoped for CE to access it first, and then block objectionable individual works from inside it. It's offered to all libraries in my state by the state library.

Hi Bart,

I did some testing on my side and found that Overdrive is only blocked at the setting of Y(outh) or lower. If you are set to T(een) or higher, you'll have no issue getting to the site. If you need to have the filter set to Y or lower, you can always add the site to your Allow List.

Hope this helps!
