Can't connect to covenant eyes server

I am constantly having the 20hour limit message both at work and at home. 2 separate by similar problems

At work there is a proxy server, which used to be fine until I updated (when chrome stopped working) ever since then the proxy setting in CE doesn't seem to make a difference, I can log in, but am not connected to the server, since every day or so I get the 20 hours thing. (it also randomly seems to sometimes decide that the hours of use are out side what I'm allowed BUT I have no time restriction on my account)

At home I have a Netgear router, and have turned on the parent filtering (using OpenDNS) so that internet enabled devices such as the TV at least have some blockage on them. And recently our internet connection has not been consistent (frequent drop outs and quite slow)- We are chasing our ISP to get the line checked. But now my computers are also letting me log in but every day or so telling me that my 20 hours are up, and refusing to let me even access the router or modem's configuration pages (which makes testing and fixing our internet problems completely impossible).

Would an uninstall and reinstall have any chance of fixing anything, or is there anything else I can try?

Thanks for posting your issue here. Do you happen to know which version of Covenant Eyes you are using? My guess is probably 5.0.4.280. If that is the case, grabbing the newest version on our site could be helpful.

You seem to be getting the wrong error message when you get the time restrictions message. This is something I have seen on occasion when Covenant Eyes is blocked. Since this newer version of Covenant Eyes was designed to use a newer networking technology, it could very well be that your work's proxy or firewall is legitimately blocking us. In most situations, this should not be a problem since we have implemented away for Covenant Eyes to still hold a user accountable even if our servers are unreachable (for a time). After about 20 hours of being in this state, Covenant Eyes will pop up a message letting you know that something is wrong.

If you have a valid internet connection and can reach our server, you should be able to close that message and sign in to Covenant Eyes. If you still can't, there is a way to reopen the connection but it's not exactly elegant.

For this to work, it's best if you use firefox or google chrome.
  • Open your browser and go to localhost:48867/internal/stats/
  • This will bring up a page that says Covenant Eyes Windows Client Stats
  • Click Requeue Now (this is what reopens the connection)
  • Sign in to Covenant Eyes
Over time this process will become more intuitive or automatic but for now, this should get you back if the 20 hour message gets stuck.

EDIT: As far as the work issue goes, do you know if you need credentials to use the proxy server? If so, have you used those credentials in Covenant Eyes' proxy settings?
Another consideration, do you need to accept a terms of service page when you use the network? If not a terms of service page, do you need to enter a username and password aside from the wifi password?
