App Screenshot and Monitoring

I am just about to download Covenant Eyes on my daughters phone and I'm curious; does Covenant Eyes ONLY screenshot what her browers history(such as Chrome or Internet Safari) and what she sees on those apps, OR does Covenant Eyes also screenshot other apps (and what she sees on those apps) such as Snapchat, Instagram, Spotify and Pinterest?

Lilly,

Thanks for considering us! The answer to your question depends on the type of device she has.

Because you mentioned Safari, I'll assume that she has an iPhone®. Here's a simple breakdown of Screen AccountabilityTM on an iPhone®:
Inside our app = screenshots
Outside of our app = websites/links (*this is due to some Apple regulations)

If she has an AndroidTM phone, the screenshots are of all apps.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to follow up here or contact us via live chat (the blue chat bubble on our home screen) or over the phone (989.720.8000).

When you say that it takes screenshots of the apps does it just take screenshots of what app she is on or what she is actually doing on the app?

It takes a shot of what's actually on the screen; you should see a blurred-for-safety version of what they see.

So, on an AndroidTM phone you won't get a list of what apps she used, you will get screenshots.

Because Apple has different guidelines, we use a two-fold approach on an iPhone®. We get screenshots when the person is using our app as a browser and we rely on links/URLs to keep an eye on activity outside of our app.

How about for the GroupMe app on an iPhone? Will it catch inappropriate pics?

Reese C,

At this time our app does not take screenshots inside other apps, it only takes shots of activity inside our app. If GroupMe can be accessed via the web, instead of just through their app, then we could take screenshots of GroupMe activity. For an example, here's how some people manage Facebook and Instagram: they use Screen Time settings to turn off Safari and the ability to install/delete apps, and then use our app for the internet. That way CE can take screenshots of Facebook and Instagram.

I don't know enough about GroupMe to know if that set up would work. Some apps don't have a website because they just want you to be in their app. But that arrangement has worked for some folks.

Thanks for asking!

Robert
