Android VPN

I want CE to not use the VPN. Why? Because all it does is send traffic information for the accountability service. Filtering is gone. Also, I cannot use Blokada, which can be used for filtering. Ideally, I would like to just use Blokada but it has no accountability features as it is an adblocker primarily. Since Blokada uses VPN, I can no longer use it. I don't like this. Use accessibility service again or something. But still let us use any browser.

Hello Joe,
Thank you for posting. Unfortunately, Google, who owns Android's operating system, no longer allows third party vendors to utilize the Accessibility services on the Android operating system. Accessibility was designed to serve the disabled community. For this reason, Covenant Eyes had to seek other means to provide protection for our Android members. This is why Covenant Eyes uses a VPN to allow for monitoring across the device; which allows for use of any browser.

The conflict with Blokada is due to operating system rules, which specify only one VPN can be used at a time. This is not something Covenant Eyes is capable of changing. We apologize for the difficulties you are experiencing. As an alternative means of filtering, Covenant Eyes has made it possible for you enter DNS settings for filtering services (such as Open DNS) to allow for device wide filtering. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to Covenant Eyes Customer Service.

Best Regards,

Syd

The DNS problems are entirely within the CE app. I want to use the default DNS server as we have a local site to view our data usage and stuff. I have to refresh CE just to make sure that it will resolve.

And yes, it can be changed. Blokada is Open Source. You could base it off of that. Remove the extensive ad filtering lists so Google will allow it on the Play Store, add your own filtering list (and force it to always be enabled). Then users could add their own lists on top of that. Violarions of that filter list could then be reported. Problem solved. I may even try to set it up myself.
