Android notification isn't dismissable

A few days ago, Covenant Eyes seems to have updated in such a way that I can no longer turn off the notification that Covenant Eyes is on. I know that I have Covenant Eyes on my phone (which is on Android 5, if that matters), but I don't want the notification clogging up my screen. Could the option to turn this off be brought back?

Hey Sam,

Unfortunately we cannot bring back that option from our end. Since we are technically a "observing & monitoring app" we must (via Google Play Policy) have a persistent icon that is not able to be hidden. Our most recent update was rejected from Google Play until we removed that option. I do apologize, I know many of our users really liked that option.

If the situation with Google changes, we will investigate bringing it back, but for now we are stuck on this one.

Sorry about that.

Hi Sam,

As A Christian Libertarian, I share your privacy/encryption concern (which is, frankly, why I, only very seldomly post on G+). That being said: I would like to offer you an alternative (in the area of search engines). It's called "Duckduckgo." When you access the search engine you'll learn how it works.

Sincerely,

Cory

I was afraid of that. Do you have anyone specific at Google we could talk to? Maybe if a lot of the users speak to them directly they might reconsider - or at least let us have the option of taking the notification off of the lock screen.

Hey Sam,

I wish we did, but we do not have any direct way to give you access to someone to talk to. We have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what we need to do to be in best compliance with Play policy, and our (semi-frequent) removal from Google play reveals that we have not always been successful in our endeavors.

Some users have had luck by disabling app notifications in their app manager (in the Android OS) but I am not sure how effective that is personally.

Awesome! Found this and disabling app notifications also worked for me. Thanks for the hard work John (and the rest of the team)! Covenant eyes has really been a lifesaver for me so thank-you! Keep it up. :)
