Android Lag With CE

I have a Moto G4 plus 64 GB edition which recently updated to Nougat. Before the update, CE worked fine. However, now it causes my phone to lag after a few hours, making the phone nearly unusable.  If I reboot my phone, the lag disappears, however the lag reappears after a few hours. When I uninstall CE, this problem no longer occurs.

I've tried rebooting my phone, reinstalling the app, doing a factory reset of the phone, and uninstalling other apps. It appears that CE is the sole cause of the lag.

Is there some way I could improve my phone performance with CE installed?

This issue has been present on a few phone models since Nougat was released. (My Note 5 for example) One suggestion by tech support has been to downgrade to a prior version of CE while a fix is made. The email was:

Thank you for contacting me and I apologize for the issues you've been experiencing. Before you follow the steps below please make sure the current version of Covenant Eyes is uninstalled from your Android device. 

You can access an older version of our app through the website apkpure.com. Once you arrive at the website search for 'Covenant Eyes' in the search bar near the top right. The first search result will be for our app, go ahead and click on it. On the next page you will need to scroll down until you reach the 'Covenant Eyes APK Version History'. Click the + sign next to '3.0.3.26 for Android 4.0+ APK Download'. This version should work better on your device until our developers can find a fix for our current version. You will also want to make sure to turn off the auto update in the Play Store settings so that our app does not automatically update to the latest version and cause issues for you again.

I followed these directions for my S6. Though it has slowed the problem--I now only have to restart once or twice daily--it hasn't resolved it. To me, after 6 weeks of it not being fixed, it appears CE is unable to do so. Either that, or it's just not a priority...Maybe losing customers will change that.

Thanks for reaching out and we sympathize with your frustrations. Sometimes the customizable nature of Android presents a challenge. But in this case, Nougat itself has presented us with a few challenges.

Our developers have a beta version that targets the main issues. As you may or may not know, a beta is created to address specific issues and is rolled out in limited release.
